Preventive Care

Prevention is the key!  If we can prevent gum disease or cavities or even catch small cavities and gum disease in their earliest stages, we can prevent the loss of teeth,  prevent  the need for major reconstruction of your teeth through root canal, crowns and large fillings, and conserve precious tooth structure.  Some preventative measures that we employ include:
  • Placing dental sealants on all teeth that do not have decay present.
  • Early cavity detection and removal of early decay.
  • Cleanings at frequent intervals with proper screening for gum disease.
  • The use of an electric toothbrush and floss.
  • Fluoride treatments, both at home and in the office.
  • Removing large amalgams and replacing with "more kind to your tooth restorations" like onlays, inlays, composite fillings or crowns.
  • The use of modern technology such as the Laser Cavity Detector, Diagnodent, to find small cavities, which are frequently missed during examination with x-rays, a mirror and an explorer.
  • The use of digital x-rays, where the Doctor can compare and contrast, change the lightness and darkness of a film, and magnify the tooth on the computer.
  • Regularly scheduled checkups and cleanings.
